If you wish to reside in the U.S. permanently you will need an immigrant visa. The three most common categories of Immigrant Visas are family based (certain relatives of U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents), employment based, and Diversity Visas for winners of the DV lottery. A limited number of individuals may benefit from the Life Act. Please choose the subject from the list at left for additional information about specific categories and procedures.

Please Note: Due to security considerations, there is no longer an information window for walk-in visitors. Only those with appointments or with business to conduct such as reporting a lost greencard will be admitted to the Visa Section.

Members of the U.S. military stationed in Japan may be able to get advice and obtain copies of some forms at the their base legal office.
