Ashland Fishery
Resources Office
The Ashland Fishery Resources Office (FRO) is a field
office in Region 3, the "Great Lakes and Big
Rivers" Region, of the
U.S. Fish
& Wildlife
Service. The Regional Office is located at 1 Federal Drive, Fort
Snelling, MN
55111-4056.
The Ashland FRO is responsible
for fish and wildlife management assistance to 14 Tribal governments,
restoration of native fish and habitats in the Lake Superior basin,
ecosystem team priorities (primarily lake sturgeon and coaster brook trout
restoration), aquatic nuisance species control, fisheries assistance to 4
National Wildlife Refuges (NWR); 4 National Parks; and 3 National Forests in the Lake Superior region,
assist in coordinating the
Great Lakes Coastal Program and
Great Lakes Fishery Commission,
Partners for Fish and Wildlife
Program and development of the new
Whittlesey Creek
NWR.
Located on U.S. Highway 2 in Ashland, Wisconsin, on the shore of Lake
Superior's Chequamegon Bay, the Ashland FRO shares space with the Lake Superior Biological
Station (Great Lakes Science Center) and the U.S.
National
Park Service's
Great Lakes Network Office.
Other
Service offices in Wisconsin include Fishery Resources Offices at Green Bay and La
Crosse, National Fish Hatchery at Iron River and Genoa, the La Crosse Fish Health Center,
the Ecological Services Field Office in Green Bay, three Law Enforcement offices, four
National Wildlife Refuges, and the Madison Private Lands Office. The
Ashland FRO interacts with resource managers and the public, within three
ecosystems (Mississippi
Headwaters/Tallgrass Prairie,
Upper
Mississippi River/Tallgrass Prairie and the
Great
Lakes ecosystems).
