FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
HHS Secretary Donna E. Shalala will kick-off the Healthy Child Care America Campaign at the National Child Care Health Forum. The forum, jointly sponsored by health and child welfare agencies of HHS, will bring together more than 150 leaders in the health, social services and child care fields to help build public awareness of the importance of safe, healthy, high-quality child care. More than ten million children under age 5 spend part of their day in child care. These programs offer unique opportunities to improve preventive health services and promote the healthy development of young children. This forum will help communities put quality plans in place. At the forum, a Blueprint for Action will be released with a 10 step plan to help communities increase local involvement in a number of children's issues, including nutrition, immunizations, health screenings, and fitness.
