Runaway and Homeless Youth

Description

Region 9 administers, monitors, supports, and provides grants for three of the four major national Runaway and Homeless Youth programs. These are:

  • Runaway and Homeless Youth (RHY), Basic Center Program - The program provides shelter, food, clothing, outreach services, and crisis intervention for runaway and homeless youth. The shelters also offer services to help reunite youth with their families, whenever possible.

  •
  • Transitional Living Program (TLP) for Homeless Youth - The program offers assistance to older homeless youth to achieve self-sufficiency and avoid long-term dependency on social services. The TLP provides shelter, skills training, and support services to homeless youth ages 16 through 21 for a continuous period not exceeding 18 months.

  • Street Outreach Program (SOP) - The program provides street outreach and education-based programs to prevent sexual abuse and exploitation of runaway and homeless youth.
