Assistance in an Evacuation/Disaster
A U.S. citizen caught up in a natural disaster or civil disturbance should inform his/her relatives as soon as possible that he/she is safe, or contact a U.S. consul who will pass that message to the family through the Department of State. We recommend being resourceful. U.S. officials will do everything they can to contact and advise citizens and their relatives, but they must give priority to citizens who have been hurt or are in immediate danger.
