HIV/AIDS in the Workplace

OVERVIEW

In September 1993, the President issued a directive to heads of executive departments and agencies which called for development and implementation of HIV/AIDS workplace policies and employee and supervisory education and prevention programs by World AIDS Day, 1994.  We assisted agencies in developing policies, locating training resources, and advising agencies on all aspects of HIV/AIDS in the workplace. We worked with the White House Office of National AIDS Policy and assisted with the development, assessment, dissemination, and implementation of the training guidelines and policies for all Federal agencies. A major part of this effort was the collaboration with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in the development of a model curriculum that has been made available to all agencies at a minimal cost. In 1995, we updated our governmentwide guidance on workplace HIV/AIDS issues to assist agencies in establishing effective programs and policies.

Our policy guidance can be found in the 1995 issuance of HIV/AIDS Policy Guidelines.

Following are other Federal agencies providing information relating to HIV/AIDS:
