New Features on the NAIC Website

In July 2004, the National Adoption Information Clearinghouse (NAIC) website got a new look and feel based on feedback from our customers. The information you've come to rely on has remained the same, but you'll be able to access it more quickly and easily than ever.

We recognize that new websites take some getting used to, so we've put together a list of new features to help our users get acquainted with the new, improved NAIC.

1. Reorganization of the site around customer groups

We heard from professionals that they wanted easy access to information for administrators (including What Works in Adoption Programs and the Child and Family Services Reviews), and information for professionals who work with families (including Recruiting and Preparing Families and Post-Adoption Information). That's why resources for professionals, including Clearinghouse publications and links to information from organizations in the field, are divided into these two categories.

2. New icons

We've added new icons, or graphical images, to help guide users' eyes as they navigate the site.

Picture of globe icon.

The globe icon signifies links that take users to other web pages, usually those outside the National Adoption Information Clearinghouse and our partner site, the National Clearinghouse on Child Abuse and Neglect Information.

When you select a link with a globe icon that leads to an external website, you will see a pop-up window that tells you that you are leaving the site. Read more about pop-up windows for external links.

Picture of book icon.

The book signifies a publication that is published or distributed by the Clearinghouse.

Picture of people icon. The people icon signifies an organization related to child abuse and neglect, child welfare, or adoption from our database.
Picture of newspaper icon. The newspaper signifies an article from our Children's Bureau Express Online Digest for professionals in child abuse and neglect, child welfare, and adoption.
Picture of calendar icon. The calendar signifies a conference on child abuse and neglect, child welfare, or adoption organization.

3. Improved search features

Clearinghouse Search

We've enhanced our search function to provide you with better results.

When you type a search term into the Search Clearinghouse box on the upper right of the NAIC homepage, you'll receive results in the following categories. Note the icons next to the categories below:

4. New "Who to Contact for Help" Search

We've made it easier to find State and local adoption contacts specific to the different needs of customer groups. Look for the "Who to Contact for Help" search on the right side of the page to search for adoption agencies, support groups, State adoption and foster care officials, and more. Results present select resources from the National Adoption Directory Search, which you can use to broaden or narrow your search.

5. Pop-up windows for external links

The Administration on Children and Families requires its websites to inform users when they are exiting the site and going to a non-Federal site. Our pop-up window asks users to click "ok" to show they are aware that they are leaving the Clearinghouse site and that they are aware that the Clearinghouse is not responsible for the content on non-Federal websites.
