Domestic Adoption

Resources on different types of adoption within the United States.

Independent Adoption
Information and resources on adoptions facilitated by those other than adoption agencies. Facilitators may be attorneys, physicians, or other intermediaries.

Foster Care Adoption
Resources on the adoption of children from the U.S. foster care system, or public child welfare system. Includes information on adopting children with special needs and resources on permanency planning.

Kinship/Relative Adoption
Information on the adoption of children by someone related to the children by family ties or by prior relationship connection. Resources are categorized by understanding the adoption process, understanding the legal issues, and help for grandparents and elderly caregivers.

Native American Adoption
Information and resources on the adoption of Native American children (members of North American Indian Tribes of the United States or First Nations of Canada).

AdoptUSKids
The Children�s Bureau contracted with the Adoption Exchange Association and its partners (the Collaboration to AdoptUSKids) to devise and implement a national adoptive family recruitment and retention strategy, operate the AdoptUSKids.org website, enhance adoptive family support organizations, and conduct a variety of adoption research projects.
