The Family and Youth Services Bureau
(FYSB) provides funding to local communities to support
young people, particularly runaway and homeless youth, and their
families through the following three grant programs authorized by
the Runaway, Homeless, and Missing Children
Protection Act of 2003. (To view the Act, you must first
download and install the free Acrobat Reader,
if you have not previously done so.)
FYSB also provides funding for research,
evaluation, and demonstration programs designed to explore specific
issues, evaluate programs, and test new theories. To date, FYSB
has funded more than 150 demonstration projects; currently, FYSB
is funding 9 State Youth Development
Collaboration projects designed to promote the youth development approach.
In addition, FYSB provides financial
assistance for the Mentoring Children of Prisoners
Program authorized by the Promoting Safe and Stable Families Amendments of 2001 (Public
Law 107-133). (To view the Amendments, you must first download
and install the free Acrobat Reader,
if you have not previously done so.) This program assists communities
in providing mentoring services to children of incarcerated parents.
