The Refugee Service Center (RSC) and the Language Education
and Academic Development division at CAL are teaming up to conduct
a needs assessment of refugee resettlement agencies and newcomer
school programs for English language learners around the U.S.
to determine the extent to which these institutions 1) have
awareness of each other's services and 2) coordinate efforts
to support refugee children in obtaining the best educational
opportunities possible upon resettlement to the U.S.
Over the next two months, we will be conducting the assessment
by telephone with a sample of resettlement agencies and newcomer
programs that serve refugee youth in the same city or town.
We expect the phone interview will take a maximum of 20 minutes
for each respondent to complete and we are willing to email
or fax the questions in advance if that would be helpful. In
return for your participation, we will provide each respondent
with a summary of the findings including recommendations and
descriptions of promising coordination efforts, and we will
also post the results on CAL's website. We expect to begin implementation
in October, for completion in November. |
