Program Responsibilities:




Brett D. Fleisch joined the National Science Foundations Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) / Computer and Network Systems (CNS) as Program Director in April 2004.  Dr. Fleisch currently is an IPA from the University of California, Riverside where he has been since 1992.  At the University of California, Riverside, Fleisch serves as Associate Professor of Computer Science and Engineering and directs the Distributed Systems lab in the Computer Science and Engineering Department.  From 1989-1992 he was an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA.
 
Dr. Fleisch received the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of California, Los Angeles in July 1989.  He received the B.A. degree in Computer Science at the University of Rochester, the M.S. degree in Computer Science at Columbia University in 1981 and 1983, respectively.  His research interests span the area of distributed systems, and operating systems and include mobile code security, memory management e.g. distributed shared memory (DSM), fault-tolerance, reliability, peer to peer systems, and highly available systems. At the University, Dr. Fleisch has been funded by numerous agencies including National Science Foundation, Digital Equipment Corporation, International Business Machines Corporation (IBM), Hewlett-Packard Laboratories, Computer Marketplace Incorporated, Sun Microsystems, the Office of Naval Research and the UC Micro program. Dr. Fleisch has also served in the past as a consultant and summer employee at Xerox Corporation's, Webster Research Center, IBM Corporation's Thomas J. Watson Research Center, the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, New Jersey, The College Board (West Coast offices) and the State of California, Department of Motor Vehicles.  In addition, he has also worked at Hewlett-Packard Laboratories, Carnegie-Mellon University, Locus Computing Corporation, and for the UCLA Computer Science Department.
 
Dr. Fleisch is a member of the ACM, IEEE Computer Society, and USENIX.  He has served on numerous program committees, government advisory panels, and has published extensively in his research area.  His publications are more fully documented and up-to-date and may be found at his academic web page at:  http://www.cs.ucr.edu/~brett/.
