On this Page:

Searching the Bibliography

The search mechanism is structured around the bibliographic codes.

To build a search:

  1. Go to the Search page.

  2. Decide which categories you would like to search within.

  3. Mark the box next to each code that you would like to search for.

    • Please Note: Each code you select will further narrow your search.

    • For example, if you check boxes next to both expert and media in the communicator category, the search will only find records that discuss both of these topics.

  4. Click on the Submit button to run the search.

    -- or --

Click the Reset button to clear your choices.

  5. If you clicked on the Submit button, you will be taken to an alphabetical index of all records that matched the criteria you selected.

  6. To Search again, click on the Search button.

    -- or --

To return to the search page without clearing your search criteria, use the back button on your browser.

Searching by Author, Title, or Year

You can specify an author's name, a document title, or a year of publication as search criteria by entering the appropriate material into these search fields. To optimize your search, follow these tips.

By Author:

  • Capitalize the initial of the author's last name and / or first name
  • Enter a portion of the name instead of the full name. For example, instead of "Tinker, Tim" enter "Tink"

By Title:

  • use lowercase letters
  • enter as few words from the title as possible. For example, if you are looking for "The effect of fear-arousing communications on cigarette smoking: an expectancy-value approach," enter "fear-arousing" in the title box.

By Year:

  • Search for a single year only using all four digits

The Author, Title, and Year fields appear after the bibliography coding categories.
