I came into the State Department as a co-op student in 2002, while I was getting my Master's of Public Administration. After my first six months here, I realized I would never be given the same level of opportunities and experience anywhere in the private sector so early in my career. I am now a management analyst covering the Middle East for the Bureau of Consular Affairs.

The most rewarding part of my work is the chance to bring my background and knowledge to intelligence analysis for senior policymakers. I cover Japanese, South Korean, North Korean and Indonesian economic issues. When I was detailed to the National Security Council, it was exciting to get the chance to go to meetings in the West Wing at the White House.

As an adviser to the Under Secretary of State for Global Affairs, my responsibilities range from making policy recommendations to researching a fast-breaking issue to drafting speeches and testimonies. I also review budgets and personnel management issues to ensure that policy decisions are carried out.

I left the private sector and recently entered the Department as a secretary working in Human Resources. What motivates me is the people I work with - providing them with office support and completing tasks promptly. I truly love my job and look forward to growth and a wonderful career here at the State Department.

My initial entry into the State Department as an Operations Specialist was fascinating. The Operations Center is a virtual nerve center for all emergencies - from evacuations to plane crashes to coups and almost anything else imaginable. The Ops Center is a never-ending cycle of 24-hour, 7-day-a-week excitement.
