The mission of the Family and Youth
Services Bureau (FYSB) is to provide national leadership on youth
issues.
For more than two decades, FYSB and
the youth service field have worked together to promote the creation
of a strong continuum of care for youth growing up in difficult
situations.
The Bureau and the field also designed
and continue to promote a youth development
approach to working with young people that remains the cornerstone
of FYSB's work today.
FYSB currently supports local communities
in providing services and opportunities to young people, particularly
runaway and homeless youth. FYSB does so by awarding
funding that enables communities to offer services to young
people and their families and to test new approaches to helping
youth. (For more information on the Bureau, click
here to review the FYSB fact sheet.)
In addition, the Bureau
has created a network of support that includes a national hotline
and referral system for runaway and homeless youth; offers conferences,
trainings, and onsite consultations; documents effective practices;
and distributes information.
