The Administration for Children and Families (ACF) is a federal agency funding state, territory, local, and tribal organizations to provide family assistance (welfare), child support, child care, Head Start, child welfare, and other programs relating to children and families.

Actual services are provided by state, county, city and tribal governments, and public and private local agencies. ACF assists these organizations through funding, policy direction, and information services.

HHS AWARDS OVER $3 MILLION IN FLORIDA FOR MENTORING

Grants to help children with a parent in prison

Adoption HHS Secretary Tommy G. Thompson announced on October 21 the awarding of $3,178,000 for six Florida organizations to help mentor children of prisoners. “By providing children of prisoners with mentors, the Bush Administration is helping to prevent bad outcomes for kids while promoting a positive outreach to those in need,” said Secretary Thompson.

Representing President George W. Bush and Secretary Thompson, HHS Assistant Secretary for Children and Families Wade F. Horn, Ph.D. [pictured center], unveiled the grants in West Palm Beach. U.S. Congressman Mark Foley [pictured far right] joined Dr. Horn in making the presentation.
