Easter Seals Project ACTION
Easter Seals Project ACTION (Accessible Community Transportation in Our Nation) —a national technical assistance program for Americans with disabilities — promotes cooperation between the disability community and transportation industry, and conducts research, demonstration, and technical assistance programs to promote increased mobility for individuals with disabilities. Project ACTION is a congressionally directed national technical assistance program originally authorized under the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA).
Project ACTION activities include:
- advancing local demonstration and technical assistance projects that identify individuals with disabilities and their transportation needs,
- providing training programs for transit operators,
- identifying technology that could solve critical transportation accessibility issues, and
- advancing outreach and marketing programs.
Project ACTION provides training, resources and technical assistance to thousands of disability organizations, consumers with disabilities and public transportation service providers. It assists local transportation agencies in implementing the requirements of the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA). Project ACTION maintains a National Transit Resource center with up-to-date information on transportation accessibility.
