In order to better protect and preserve historic places and cultural artifacts the National Park Service partners with outside public and private interests. One of the byproducts is a network of contacts which enables you easier access to the information you're looking for.

Certified Local Government (CLG) Program
This program is administered by the State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPO) to promote enthusiasm and public support in historic communities. Here you can find grants information for registered CLG communities and contact lists for CLG's in each state.

Historians Listing & Search Engine
This list of National Park Service historians represents the many facets of public history throughout the headquarters office, regional offices, support offices and centers, and individual parks that make up the National Park System.

Historic Surplus Property Program
State, county and local governments can obtain surplus federal properties at no cost if the property is listed in, or eligible for listing in, the National Register of Historic Places. Historic properties transferred under this program may be used for public facilities, such as museums and government offices. Properties can also be leased to not-for-profit organizations and to developers who may be eligible to take advantage of federal preservation tax incentives for historic buildings.

Information Sources for Lighthouses
This inventory of historic lighthouses and contact lists for lighthouse organizations are made available to promote structures' preservation as National Landmarks.

National Underground Railroad, Network to Freedom Partners Database
This database is searchable by state and includes a list of individuals or groups that are committed to commemorating the history of the Underground Railroad. A description of each group's activities or specific area of interest is included.

Native American Consultation Database
The Native American Consultation Database (NACD) provides an easy way to identify contacts for each of the 771 federally recognized Indian tribes, Alaska Native corporations, and Native Hawaiian organizations. You can search for contacts by name, tribe, reservation, state, country, and military installation.

State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) Listing
This list of SHPOs and other preservation organizations is provided to promote the conservation of historic sites and structures in the U.S.

Tribal Historic Preservation Offices
This site provides information on the Tribal Historic Preservation Offices and programs as directed by the National Historic Preservation Act.
