Nominations to the Office of Inspector General--Agreement:
A unanimous-consent agreement was reached providing that nominations to the Office of Inspector General, except the Office of Inspector General of the Central Intelligence Agency, be referred in each case to the committee having primary jurisdiction over the department, agency, or entity, and if and when reported in each case, then to the Committee on Governmental Affairs for not to exceed 20 calendar days, except that in cases when the 20-day period expires while the Senate is in recess, the Committee shall have 5 additional calendar days after the Senate reconvenes to report the nomination. Further, that if the nomination is not reported after the expiration of that period, the nomination be automatically discharged and placed on the Executive Calendar.

Committee on Armed Services:
Committee concluded hearings to examine current and potential military operations, after receiving testimony from Donald H. Rumsfeld, Secretary of Defense; and General Richard B. Myers, USAF, Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Also, Committee met in closed session to receive a briefing on the Iraq weapons inspection process from representatives of the Central Intelligence Agency and the Defense Intelligence Agency.

Committee concluded hearings to examine Social Security including an analysis of issues and selected reform proposals, after receiving testimony from David M. Walker, Comptroller General of the United States, General Accounting Office.
