El general Freddy Padilla de León, el militar colombiano de más alto rango presente en el evento, presidió la ceremonia en calidad de Inspector General. El general Padilla acompañó al Embajador Wood y al Agregado de Defensa de Estados Unidos, coronel William Graves. Inmediatamente después de la ceremonia se realizó una recepción en honor a los homenajeados, a la cual asistieron aproximadamente 60 invitados.
Ambassador William Wood presented Legions of Merit to three Colombian retired general officers on October 2, 2003 at the Army Command Headquarters. The three recipients are former Colombian military attaches to the United States. Receiving the Legion of Merit were: General (R) Nestor Ramirez Mejia, who served as Defense Attaché from January, 2002 to January, 2003; Major General (R) Victor Alvarez, who served as Military Attaché from January, 2001 to January, 2002; and Major General (R) Jaime Cortes, who also served as Military Attaché from January, 2001 to December, 2002.
Major General Freddy Padilla de Leon, the senior Colombian general in attendance, presided over the ceremony as Inspector General. Major General Padilla accompanied Ambassador Wood and the U.S. Defense Attaché, Col. William Graves. A reception in honor of the awardees was held immediately following the ceremony for the approximately 60 attendees. |
