Trend Data: Research Education

Fiscal Years 1986-2003

Since 1986, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has supported Individual Postdoctoral Fellowship, Institutional Training Program, and dissertation grants. Except for dissertation research support (which is supported by AHRQ budget authority), most research education support provided by AHRQ comes from a set aside of funds provided to the National Instititutes of Health (NIH) for National Research Service Awards (NRSA).

NRSA Training Fund History

Since 1986, AHRQ has supported Individual Postdoctoral Fellowship and Institutional Training Program grants from a set aside of funds provided to NIH for National Research Service Awards (NRSA). Beginning in FY 1993, AHRQ's allocation of NRSA funds increased from .5 percent to 1 percent of NRSA appropriation. From FY 1990 through FY 1995, and beginning again in FY 1999, AHRQ used budget authority to supplement NRSA dollars.
