Animal Waste Management (AWM)
A planning tool used to estimate the
production of waste materials within an animal feeding operation and determine
the size of storage / treatment facilities (process and calculations used in AWM
based on the USDA-NRCS Agricultural Waste Management Field Handbook).
Manure Management Planner (MMP)
Being developed at Purdue University; A
manure utilization planning tool to help develop nutrient management plans. (NRCS
is cooperating with the development of this tool and plans to incorporate it
into the toolkit used by NRCS staffs.)
Phosphorus Index
A site vulnerability assessment tool, helps determine the
relative risk for off-site transport of phosphorus and for manure. The
Phosphorus Index is one of the best techniques for making manure management
decisions. The PI is a useful tool for prioritizing fields for the application
of animal manure or other organic by-products that contains phosphorus. It may
also be used to identify fields on which more careful management of phosphorus
may be necessary.
Animal Feeding Operations (AFOs)
Includes information on Comprehensive Nutrient Management Plans (CNMPs).
National Agricultural Pesticide Risk Analysis (NAPRA)
A complex modeling system that utilizes GLEAMS to predict the probability of
toxic pesticide movement associated with specific crop management techniques
under specific weather and soil conditions. NAPRA can be used in high-risk
areas to determine what kinds of alternative management strategies would be
required to meet water quality goals.
Windows Pesticide Screening Tool (WIN-PST)
A simple pesticide screening tool that NRCS field office
staff, extension agents, crop consultants, pesticide dealers and producers can
use to evaluate the potential environmental risk for pesticides to move with water and eroded
soil/organic matter and affect nontargeted organisms.
