Agriculture Secretary Ann M. Veneman held a tele-news conference and webcast on National Agriculture Week and USDA's eGovernment Initiative. USDA's Chief Information Officer Scott Charbo joined Veneman as did USDA Chief Economist Keith Collins.

Jan. 9, 2004 -
USDA-NRCS held 10 national listening sessions on the Conservation Security Program (CSP) to gain feedback on a proposed rule to implement the program. The CSP proposed rule was published in the Federal Register on Jan. 2, 2004.

December 7- 10, 2003 -
The Second National Conference on Grazing Lands was designed to provide a forum for discussion of the benefits of grazing. The conference provided the opportunity for the exchange of technical and management information, identification of research needs, marketing of products, services and other benefits of grazing.

June 2, 2003 -
A national Anaerobic Digestion (AD) summit from June 2 - 4 in Raleigh, North Carolina explored ways that AD can be used within the context of animal waste management, rural economic development, and environmental improvement.

September 12, 2002 -
A live Webcast, featuring NRCS Chief Bruce Knight and other staff, focused on NRCS Technical Service Providers. The discussion gave an overview of TSPs at NRCS, legislation, issues, rule publishing, processes and procedures, and was followed up with a question-and-answer period.

September 10, 2002 -
In Cherokee, North Carolina, NRCS and the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians signed a joint protocol establishing procedures that will ensure the identification and protection of tribal cultural resources in conjunction with NRCS activities.

August 26, 2002
NRCS Chief Bruce Knight launched the electronic Field Office Technical Guide (eFOTG). The NRCS technical guide is a compilation of resource information about soil, water, air, plant, animal, and socio-economic resources within each NRCS field office area.

July 8, 2002-
Al Poncia, a third-generation rancher from northern California, was the recipient of the first national NRCS Excellence in Conservation Award. Poncia was recognized at a ceremony at the USDA complex in Washington, D.C. on July 8, 2002.
