Coral Reef Initiative

On June 11, 1998, President Clinton issued Executive Order 13O89 on Coral Reef Protection, which establishes the interagency US Coral Reef Task Force. The Task Force is co-chaired by the Secretary of the Interior and the Secretary of Commerce through the Administrator of National Oceanic Atmosphere and Administration (NOAA). The Order also directs the Secretary of State and the Administrator of the Agency for International Development to assess the US role in international trade and protection of coral reef species and to implement appropriate strategies and action to promote conservation and sustainable use of coral reef resources worldwide
