Research Project: EXTRACTION OF COMPARATIVE MAPPING INFORMATION FROM THE NCCCWA BAC LIBRARY

Location: Cool and Cold Water Aquaculture Research

Project Number: 1930-31000-006-04
Project Type: Specific C/A

Start Date: Feb 01, 2003
End Date: Jan 31, 2006

Objective:
The objective of this cooperative research project is to maximize the use of the NCCCWA male rainbow trout bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) library by 1) making it available to the research community and 2) obtaining comparative mapping information from the library by hybridization with heterologous probes.

Approach:
A 10X male (YY) rainbow trout BAC library was constructed for NCCCWA for use in genome research projects applied to the genetic improvement of rainbow trout for aquaculture production. To maximize the use of this library, it will be necessary to develop high-density comparative maps with whole genome sequences from model species and genetic maps of other species of interest. BACs containing ESTs will be identified and used for comparative mapping.
