Research Project: Characterization and Assessment of Arthropod Insecticides, Repellents, and Attractants

Location: Mosquito and Fly Research Unit

Project Number: 6615-32000-037-09
Project Type: Specific C/A

Start Date: Oct 01, 2000
End Date: Sep 30, 2005

Objective:
The objective of this cooperative research project is to develop strategies for the safe and effective use of insecticides, repellents, and attractants in integrated management systems for mosquitoes, biting flies, and other arthropods.

Approach:
Determine the effectiveness of insecticides, repellents, attractants, and attractant-inhibitors, as well as formulations of these materials, for the control of mosquitoes, biting flies, and other arthropods of public and animal health importance. Evaluate the effect of exposure to insecticides, repellents, attractants, and attractant-inhibitors on insect/arthropod biology and behavior. Develop and evaluate control strategies that maximize targeting precision, safety, and effectiveness of insecticides, repellents, attractants, and attractant-inhibitors for arthropod control.
