Objective:
To add to the reference files in an internet system called ScaleNet which is available through the SEL web site (http://www.sel.barc.usda.gov/scalenet/scalenet.htm). Three of the most powerful queries in this program are based on the extensive reference file that is maintained by the VPI cooperator in collaboration with SEL personnel.

Approach:
Articles on the ecology, taxonomy, and control of scale insects appearing in all available publications will be read and analyzed. Valuable information on these subjects will be indexed in a database so that it can be placed on web. Original articles will be taken or copied from publications and a reprint file will be established. All articles will be evaluated using accepted literature research methodology, thus assuring that the products of this research will conform to standard library practices.
