Research Project:
Disruption of Germ Cell Development in Insects by Rna Interference Using Somatic & Germline Transfer
Location:
Insect Behavior and Biocontrol Research Unit
Project Number: 6615-22000-016-04
Project Type:
Trust
Start Date: Oct 01, 2002
End Date: Sep 30, 2005
Objective:
To assess the efficacy of disrupting sperm and egg development in stored product pest insects through somatic or germ line transformation of constructs that produce double stranded RNA to silence germ cell specific genes.
Approach:
The Densovect somatic gene vector and the piggyBac gene vector will be used to genetically modify stored procduct insects to test gene silencing. Biosafety level: BSL-1N, last certification: March 5, 2002.
