Objective:
To develop an on-line expert system for the identification of scale insect families and common mealybug genera.

Approach:
The system will be developed in an expert system called LucID steps include development of a character matrix for the 21 families of scale insects and 30 genera of mealybugs; enter characters in LucID; develop tools for assisting clients to understand terminology; take digital images of characters using compound microscope; work with contractors to develop interface between LucID system and ScaleNet web page.
