Research Project: Introgressing White Mold Resistance from the Secondary Gene Pool of Common Bean

Location: Sunflower Research

Project Number: 5442-21220-010-07
Project Type: Specific C/A

Start Date: Jun 01, 2002
End Date: May 31, 2006

Objective:
Introgress and pyramid high levels of white mold resistance from across Phaseolus species into common bean cultivars.

Approach:
Screen 437 advanced generation F2, and recurrent and congruity inbred-backcross derived lines under heavy white mold pressure in the field (infested nursery in Idaho) and greenhouse (straw and oxalate tests in Colorado) and compare the most promising lines with the previously known resistant common bean. The new white mold resistant genotypes will be used in subsequent genetics and breeding studies and cultivar development.
