Research Project:
Computational Methods for Prokaryotic Gene Regulation Systems
Location:
U.S. Plant, Soil and Nutrition Research
Project Number: 1907-21000-017-04
Project Type:
Specific C/A
Start Date: May 24, 1999
End Date: May 23, 2004
Objective:
To create bioinformatics techniques and tools needed to construct, validate, refine and analyze models of gene regulatory circuitry in bacterial cells.
Approach:
The primary focus of the project will be on the theoretical and computational analysis of models of prokaryotic gene regulation networks, emphasizing systems-level approaches to network dynamics, topology and control. In the long term, this project will require development of various sets of tools, and involve other related foci such as the theory of complex dynamical systems, automata theory, statistical mechanics, and Petri nets to explore systems behavior. Within this project, advanced, integrative software frameworks will be developed to further the overall project goal of constructing global gene regulation models. This will involve the use of high-level specification languages, scripting language interfaces, object models and software design patterns, and visualization tools.
