Research Project: ASSESS PHYSIOLOGICAL AND CROP YIELD RESPONSE TO ENVIRONMENTAL STRESS

Location: Crop Genetics and Environmental Research

Project Number: 6615-21000-008-00
Project Type: Appropriated

Start Date: Feb 24, 2001
End Date: Feb 23, 2006

Objective:
To develop and use system analysis tools for understanding and predicting crop responses to environmental stresses.

Approach:
Three approaches to this research have been identified: (1) An exploratory approach to improve the understanding and description of nitrogen accumulation and use by crops. (2) An applications approach to analyze the constraints on crop yield as a result of environmental stresses including water deficit, temperature, and photoperiod. (3) A technology transfer component is to be pursued to develop crop models for users with defined applications.
