Research Project: Resource Development for Comparative Cereal Genomics

Location: U.S. Plant, Soil and Nutrition Research

Project Number: 1907-21000-014-01
Project Type: Specific C/A

Start Date: Sep 15, 2003
End Date: Sep 14, 2008

Objective:
The objective of this project is to extend existing resources and develop new resources for comparative genomics for the purpose of understanding cereal genomes and genes from plants of agronomic and economic importance.

Approach:
Approach: 1) Review the current state of bioinformatic and biological resources for comparative plant genomics. (2) Project future needs with respect to high-throughput genomic resources that will become available to the plant community and analysis tools to support the analysis of chromosome evolution in cereal genomes. (3) Review the current bioinformatic and biological resources available at the Plant Soil and Nutrition Laboratory and to identify where resources will be needed to meet the needs of the expanding plant genomic community. (4) Use or adapt existing bioinformatic tools where available and develop new resources where no current resource have been identified.
