Research Project: Development of Specialized Molecular Markers in Cotton for Genomics Research

Location: Genetics and Precision Agriculture Research

Project Number: 6406-21000-010-18
Project Type: Specific C/A

Start Date: Aug 22, 2001
End Date: Apr 30, 2006

Objective:
To develop AFLP, SNP's, and selected other molecular markers in cotton.

Approach:
Using a recombinant inbred population available in our laboratory, we will isolate and sequence AFLP markers that are polymorphic between the two parents of the R1 population. This will provide a novel opportunity to detect SNP's in the cotton genome. Ideally these markers will be resolvable by standard agarose gel electrophoresis, but will be suitable for multiplexing into "bins" for high throughput marker scoring using semi-automated sequences.
