Objective:
To develop and provide to ARS specific cytogenetic chromosome deficiency and substitution germplasm lines of cotton for use in molecular mapping of agronomic, fiber, and pest resistance genes in cotton.

Approach:
Rooted cuttings of presently available cytogenetic chromosome deficiency and substitution germplasm lines will be developed and supplied to ARS for growing at Mississippi State, MS. New chromosome deficiency germplasms and substitution germplasm lines will be developed for specific chromosomes and from specific genomes. Rooted cuttings of these will be provided to ARS for growing at Mississippi State, MS. These germplasms will be used in molecular mapping of the cotton genome for agronomic, fiber, and pest resistance genes. They will also be used to develop specific improved means of transferring genes from other species of Gossypium to Upland cotton via crosses with only one chromosome at a time from the alien species being involved in the cross.
