Research Project: Evaluation of Phenotypic Diversity of Two Juglans Nigra Collections Using Species-Specific Descriptors

Location: Nat'l Clonal Germplasm Rep - Tree Fruit & Nut Crops & Grapes

Project Number: 5306-21000-015-03
Project Type: Specific C/A

Start Date: Sep 25, 2003
End Date: Jan 01, 2005

Objective:
To evaluate two collections of Juglans nigra cultivars using standard and species-specific descriptors.

Approach:
Two collections of Eastern Black Walnut (Juglans nigra) cultivars located in Missouri and Kansas will be evaluated using a series of orthodox descriptors, as previously defined for J. regia. In addition, a series of new, species-specific descriptor values will be developed to provide a basis for future evaluation. All trees in both collections will be assigned DJUG accession numbers prior to entry of the descriptor information into the GRIN database. Documents SCA with MO Ag. Exp. Station.
