Research Project: Effects of Pathogenic Variability in Verticillium Dahliae and ...of Potato Early Dying Disease

Location:

Project Number: 500-42-001-15
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: May 18, 2000
End Date: May 17, 2005

Objective:
Complete assessment of VCG diversity of Vd isolates recovered from soil samples collected from potato fields in the Columbia Basin (OR/WA) and compare these with the diversity previously found in potato stems and tubers.

Approach:
Collect isolates of Pratylenchus spp. from soils from Ohio and from the Pacific Northwest (OR/WA). Evaluate the newly established collection of Pp isolates for virulence to potato, habitat preference, and reproductive rates and increase four isolates that exhibit a range of diversity in these characteristics for use in Objective 3. Conduct greenhouse screening and field microplot testing for variation in the interactive effects on PED of selected isolates of both Vd and Pp.
