Research Project: Susceptibility of North American Potato Cultivars to Powdery Scab and Potato Mop-Top Virus; Field and Storage Conditions

Location:

Project Number: 500-42-001-48
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: May 01, 2003
End Date: Apr 30, 2005

Objective:
Determine susceptibility of North American potato cultivars to powdery scab and potato mop-top virus.

Approach:
Determine the symptomatic reactions of commercially grown potato cultivars to powdery scab and to potato mop-top virus infection in the field and in the storage; identify which among the varieties are most susceptible or have relative tolerance to powdery scab and potato mop-top virus infection; assess the potential for loss as a result of powdery scab and PMTV; establish a procedure that would allow rapid and reliable screening for resistance or tolerance in breeding materials and other varieties.
