Research Project: Chemical Signals for Detection and Control of Colorado Potato Beetle

Location: Chemicals Affecting Insect Behavior

Project Number: 1275-22000-191-11
Project Type: Specific C/A

Start Date: Aug 15, 2003
End Date: Aug 15, 2008

Objective:
To develop methods for using host plant signals and aggregation pheromone to detect and manage Colorado potato beetle.

Approach:
Detailed analyses of Colorado potato beetle behavior in response to chemical and physical signals will be performed in the laboratory. Electrophysiological studies of sensory receptors will be performed to provide insight into important behavioral mechanisms. Field tests will develop knowledge gained from detailed behavioral analyses and electophysiological studies into strategies for Colorado potato beetle detection and management.
