Project Number: 5354-21220-002-13
Project Type:
Trust
Start Date: Jul 01, 2004
End Date: May 31, 2006
Objective:
(i) Develop and analyze potato genotypes with high levels of antioxidants. (ii) Explore ways to enhance the nutrition of potato. (iii) Develop and test the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) techniques for detection of the phytoplasma in potato samples which express potato yellows symptoms. (iv) Determine modes of endemic survival of BLTVA.
Approach:
(i) Produce new potato genotypes by sexual breeding and analyze content of anthocyanins and carotenoids. (ii) Screen germplasm for known or novel phytonutrients. (iii) Application of PCR testing procedures for detection of the phytoplasma. (iv) Study natural overwintering host range of BLTVA. Documents Trust with WA State Potato Commission.
