Research Project: Thiamethoxam and Imidacloprid Resistance in the Colorado Potato Beetle

Location:

Project Number: 500-42-001-52
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: Mar 31, 2004
End Date: Mar 30, 2005

Objective:
Characterize resistance to thiamethoxam in the Colorado potato beetle; determine the degree of cross resistance between thiamethoxam and imidacloprid to abamectin, spinosad and CRY3A Bt; initiate selection studies to determine potential increases in thiamethoxam resistance; and monitor field populations for resistance to thiamethoxam and imidacloprid.

Approach:
Conduct bioassays on Colorado potato beetles reared on insecticide-free potato foliage with insecticide solutions, assessing mortality and analyzing data; create a resistant strain with more genetic uniformity and higher resistance to thiamethoxam.
