Research Project: Single-Copy DNA Sequence Phylogeny of Tomatoes and Potatoes

Location: Vegetable Crops Research Unit

Project Number: 3655-21000-038-02
Project Type: Specific C/A

Start Date: Sep 30, 2004
End Date: Jul 31, 2007

Objective:
Perform mass DNA sequencing of potato and tomato germplasm accessions.

Approach:
High quality purified DNA will be isolated from representative plant samples of individuals. For polyploid taxa, samples will be further cloned. These samples, and primer sequences of single-copy genes, will be provided by Spooner to the University of Wisconsin who will produce DNA sequences. These will be aligned by Spooner and then analyzed for phylogenetic relationships.
