Research Project: Increasing the Throughput of Upland Cotton on a Roller Gin Stand

Location: Cotton Ginning Research

Project Number: 6235-41000-006-08
Project Type: Specific C/A

Start Date: Jun 01, 2002
End Date: Dec 31, 2004

Objective:
To increase the throughput of upland cotton on a roller gin stand by changing the operating parameters of the stationary knife, rotary knife, ginning roller, and feeder.

Approach:
Roller ginning upland cotton on a roller gin stand is currently not economically feasible. If the capacity of a roller gin stand can be substantially increased without compromising the quality of the upland fiber or seed, roller-ginned upland cotton may command a premium price.
