Objective:
Introduce multiple use warm-season grasses into the Southeastern United States to improve animal performance, reduce imput cost of production and improve risk management with positive impacts on wildlife diversity and environmental health.

Approach:
The perennial, warm-season grasses, switchgrass, gamagrass and caucasian bluestem will be evaluated through grazing trials with varying management strategies as well as harvested as hay or silage over a range of maturities and evaluated for dry matter intake and digestion. Evaluation will be carried out with steers, sheep and goats to determine forage quality and plant persistence and responses to defoliation will be assessed using agronomics techniques.
