Research Project: Molecular Tagging of Drought in Georgia

Location: Soybean and Nitrogen Fixation Research

Project Number: 6645-21220-006-16
Project Type: Specific C/A

Start Date: Oct 01, 2003
End Date: Oct 01, 2004

Objective:
To identify and molecularly tag drought resistance genes in soybean. Test the beneficial impact of new molecular technology on development of novel varieties tolerant to abiotic stress.

Approach:
Examine simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers in soybean and correlate markers to seed yield and its components under drought conditions. Extensive marker facilities will be used for rapid SSR marking of soybean populations which segregate for drought tolerance. Marker results in relation to stress response will be used to develop breeding selection criteria.
