Research Project: Characterization of Drought in North Carolina

Location: Soybean and Nitrogen Fixation Research

Project Number: 6645-21220-006-17
Project Type: Specific C/A

Start Date: Oct 01, 2003
End Date: Oct 01, 2004

Objective:
To identify aluminum and heat tolerant soybean and determine the physiological basis for stress tolerance.

Approach:
Examine organic acid production and root elongation in response to aluminum stress in selected genotypes. Examine heat stress effects on plant growth in controlled chambers for selected genotypes. Genotypic differences response to stress will be used to develop breeding selection criteria. Physiologically and economically important levels of stess tolerance will be defined.
