Research Project: Computerization of Data on Rust Specimens in the Arthur Herbarium at Purdue University

Location: Systematic Botany and Mycology

Project Number: 1275-22000-216-02
Project Type: Specific C/A

Start Date: Sep 01, 2004
End Date: Sep 30, 2005

Objective:
The objective of this work is to input into a database the data associated with 15,000 specimens of rust fungi that are part of the Arthur Herbarium at Department of Botany & Plant Pathology, Purdue University.

Approach:
Each of the 15,000 specimens will have a unique identifying number. Data from each specimen will be entered into a specimen database program that has been previously developed. For each specimen the data is parsed into fields. All available data from each of the 15,000 specimens will be typed into the appropriate fields. The data from each specimen will be reviewed for accuracy to ensure that the data are entered into the correct field and spelled accurately. Files with the data will be e-mailed periodically to SBML for review and incorporation with SBML databases.
