Research Project: Enhancement of Scab Resistance in Wheat and Barley Germplasm by Molecular Genetics

Location:

Project Number: 500-53-001-32
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: Jun 02, 1999
End Date: Jun 01, 2004

Objective:
Enhance scab resistance in wheat and barley germplasm by plant transformation; mapping scab QTL in barley and development of scab QTL near-isogenic lines.

Approach:
Development of scab resistant wheat and barley through genetic engineering; mapping scab resistance genes with molecular markers in barley; and using the molecular markers to develop scab QTL near-isogenic lines in barley. These tools will be essential for a continued molecular genetics approach to develop enhanced scab resistance.
