Research Project: Development of Scab-Resistant Wheats for the Southeastern United States

Objective:
Southeastern-adapted breeding lines and segregating populations with enhanced levels of scab resistance will be produced for distribution to public and private variety development programs. Coordinate a Southern wheat head scab nursery from N.C. State. Development of scabresistant wheat cultivars with superior agronomic and end-use quality for the Southeast.

Approach:
Sources of scab resistance will be identified by evaluation of native and exotic cultivated hexaploid wheats, synthetic hexaploid wheats, tetrapolid and diploid triticum and aegilops species and more genetically distant species.
