Research Project: Diagnostic Services for Don

Location:

Project Number: 500-53-001-54
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: Jul 01, 1999
End Date: Jun 30, 2004

Objective:
Provide mycotoxin analyses, especially for deoxynivalenol, for breeding and pathology projects aimed at the development of wheat and barley germplasm with improved resistance to Fusarium Head Blight.

Approach:
Provide DON analyses for samples from the breeding programs and studies involving the biology and epidemiology of Fusarium head blight. DON analysis will likely play an important role in molecular approaches to resistance if genes that detoxify DON are utilized. Use for this facility is anticipated to increase as novel approaches to resistance and projects aimed at improving our understanding of the biology of FHB are initiated.
