Research Project: Remote Sensing Technologies to Identify Diseases Earlier Within Cropping Cycles

Location: Agricultural Systems Research Unit

Project Number: 5436-13210-003-05
Project Type: Reimbursable

Start Date: Oct 01, 2001
End Date: Sep 30, 2004

Objective:
Identify grape vines impacted by Pierce's Disease using hyperspectral remote sensing.

Approach:
Use CASI II hyperspectral and Spect-IR hyperspectral imaging to evaluate the effectiveness of using reflected light for identifying the disease and detecting disease symptoms before they are noticeable on the ground. This work is being conducted and funded by USDA, APHIS. APHIS conducts comprehensive ground surveys and disease detection analysis concomitant with ARS remote sensing flyovers.
